Coastal Cleanups in France & Appreciating a State Emergency Service Unit
Taylor Joy: Okay. Okay. We’re almost ready for this recap. Let me just check this and umm—
Taylor Joy: Oh, perfect! All right. We’ve been cleared for departure INC Giving friends! Prepare for takeoff.
Taylor Joy: G’day to our friends from the land down under!
Taylor Joy: Our first recap is from Victoria, Australia, where the SES or State Emergency Service Footscray Unit shared storm preparation tips, flood demonstrations, sandbagging techniques and search and rescue operations.
Taylor Joy: In return, the INC Giving volunteers offered drawings and notes from the children, and also some yummy, delicious treats.
Taylor Joy: That’s a win-win in my book, especially since disaster preparedness is super important.
Taylor Joy: Ciao from Milano, Italia, where a blood donation drive was held at the Policlinico of Milan, one of the oldest hospitals in Italy, and the public district general hospital of Milan.
Taylor Joy: These smiling blood donors were just too happy to help in potentially saving a life. Have you given blood lately? Don’t forget to share or send us your INC Giving projects.
Taylor Joy: Next up, INC Giving volunteers said ‘Kumusta’ (Hello in Filipino) to the commuters and joggers on Alapan Road and kickstarted their day with some coffee, bread and water.
Taylor Joy: Treats like that plus welcoming and smiling faces? That would brighten my day for sure. More caffeine boosts were provided to the Sariaya community in the province of Quezon, Philippines.
Taylor Joy: Wow, that’s quite a large insulated container. I’m sure these volunteers were able to hand out many, many cups of hot ‘kape’ or coffee in Filipino. Mmm. Kape (coffee).
Taylor Joy: Over in Marinduque, these volunteers were happy to put smiles on their neighbors’ faces by sharing prepared bagged meals with the residents, even those just sitting by the sea or sitting on a tricycle.
Taylor Joy: Oftentimes, the tricycle is a motorcycle with a passenger side car attached. It’s one of the most popular modes of transportation in the Philippines, and practical and affordable too.
Taylor Joy: Flying over 7,400 miles to National City, California, neighbors in that community were also treated to free meals.
Taylor Joy: I think I see some hot dogs, chips, fruit, and even ice cream. What a great way to show some care to the community. And I wouldn’t mind taking one of those ice cream cones, please?
Taylor Joy: See all those little bags? You guessed it. More food was shared with the community and students at Naval National High School in Leyte.
Taylor Joy: Not only were there meals shared, but these volunteers also helped to beautify the school grounds and building with a cleanup drive. Nice multitasking skills, INC Giving volunteers.
Taylor Joy: And wait, is that a ‘walis tambo’ that I see? You’ve all heard about the walis tingting by now. Well, this is another Filipino style broom known as a whisk broom, and it’s usually made of dried reed and grass. Now, how many of you have used one?
Taylor Joy: In another school INC Giving Project. This time in Iloilo South, a dental activity and school supply drive was held at Jaro II Elementary School. These lucky students were given free notebooks, pencils, paper, art papers, and erasers.
Taylor Joy: Plus, they were taught proper dental hygiene. These students seem quite attentive as all students should be. I’m pretty certain I was.
Taylor Joy: More school supplies and even more meals were shared with students in Caypombo, Santamaria, Bulacan. If I’m not mistaken, that looks like delicious lugaw or a flavorful rice porridge.
Taylor Joy: This INC Giving Project resulted in some happy tummies and happy hearts too, I’m sure.
Taylor Joy: Do you see that? Right there. There! That tiny place in the middle of the Indian Ocean. That’s Diego Garcia.
Taylor Joy: How many of you had no clue where Diego Garcia was before? Myself included. On this tiny island that is only 17 square miles, a coastal cleanup was held by this group of volunteers.
Taylor Joy: And that’s quite an impressive number of trash bags collected. Well done.
Taylor Joy: Almost 3,500 miles away. We head to another coastal cleanup on Hac Sa Beach, in Macau. Just look at this formidable group of volunteers.
Taylor Joy: They were proudly able to collect various forms of trash and debris to keep Macau clean and inviting.
Taylor Joy: Zooming over 6,000 miles west, we say Bonjour to our INC Giving volunteers in Marseilles, France.
Taylor Joy: These volunteers picked up litter and other garbage along the promenade of Escale Borely to keep this picturesque area looking “tres magnifique.”
Taylor Joy: We’re going to dash back east to Malaysia, where two INC Giving projects took place.
Taylor Joy: There was a clean up drive in Bangsar and Subang Jaya, and then a blood donation drive at the Johor Bahru Blood Donation Suite.
Taylor Joy: Rolled out their brooms and dust pans and rolled up their sleeves to save lives? Awesome job INC Giving volunteers!
Taylor Joy: This time we’ve got the walis tingtings being put to use for this cleanup drive along Caltex Road, Barangay Danglayan, San Pascual, Batangas, Philippines.
Taylor Joy: These volunteers held this INC Giving project to celebrate the 88th anniversary of the Local Congregation of Danglayan of Batangas. Ecclesiastical District of Batangas. Happy 88th anniversary!
Taylor Joy: Lastly, we’re jetting from the Philippines over to Canada, where the City of Calgary was spruced up in different neighborhoods.
Taylor Joy: Such nice views of the Canadian landscape. Amazing job keeping Alberta,
or ‘Wild Rose Country’, beautiful, eh!
Taylor Joy: Whew, what another whirlwind across the globe! I don’t know where next week’s INC Giving recap will take us, but I’ll be ready.
Taylor Joy: Don’t forget to visit incgiving.org to watch any recaps you may have missed, and to also get ideas for your next INC Giving Project.
Taylor Joy: Remember, whenever you possibly can, do good to those who need it.
Taylor Joy: Bye for now.
