Volunteer at Samaritan House to Give Back to Those in Need
Elijah: Good morning everyone, how is everyone doing today? It’s currently eight in the morning here at the Burlingame office in the U.S. West Office, today we have an INC Giving activity over at the Samaritan House in San Mateo. So, let’s get going!
Elijah: It’s a tad cold this morning, so make sure you guys have your INC Giving hoodies ready just for days like this.
Elijah: Ok guys, we just arrived at the Samaritan House in San Mateo which is a food distribution center to give back to those in need. Let’s head inside and check it out.
Elijah: Samaritan House is a non-profit organization in San Mateo that helps over 1000 families and individuals on a daily basis. That’s a lot of people!
Elijah: It’s a good thing we brought some reinforcements.
Coordinator: If you see those cars coming in they do come here twice a month to pick up their bags of food. And then we have what’s called “Mobile Meals.” So, we have a group of volunteers, driver volunteers who comes here from Monday through Friday. They pick up hot meals and they deliver to our elderly and disabled.
Elijah: We got a quick rundown of how they run things and what we’re going to help with. We’re just waiting for them to take us inside where we’re going to wash our hands, sanitize and then we’re splitting up into six different groups to volunteer.
Coordinator: So what you guys will be doing is making grocery bags. So you guys can add like these cans into the bags. So you’ll do two rice, and one each of these items. And then we’ll tie it and put it into a bin. You’ll just tie it and then put it in here and then once this is full we’ll take it to the frontline and give it out to clients. Okay?
Elijah: We just got split off into our group where we’re going to be packing different food grocery bags with a set of instructions on what to put inside and we’ll tie it up and we’ll put it in this bin.
Elijah: We’ve been hard at work. This is our third bin full of the grocery bags that we’ve been packing and we have another one right here. So they’re just going to roll them out and give them away to the clients that are here waiting for the grocery bags.
Elijah:There were tons of donated goods and more kept arriving while we were packing. And it’s only because of those donations from the community that this organization is able to help so many people who are in need.
Elijah: Hi guys. So we just finished our shift packing the grocery bags. We’re done for the day but the other people are gonna take over and continue the work. We did about four of these carts which is a lot.
Elijah: I think they said about a thousand bags we did. So good work!
Elijah: Alright everyone, that does it for us today. That was the end of our shift. It was such a cool experience and I really recommend it to everyone; this type of volunteer work is needed of us to volunteer and for the people that really do need the help.
Elijah: Look around in your community and find an opportunity to do good to those who need it.
Elijah: Alright everyone, see you guys later! Bye!
