DARLENE: I have been waiting for this opportunity for probably months. We are getting our hair cut today!

INC Giving shirt is on because we’ll be donating our hair. As you can see, hair is long enough to not fit in the frame anymore. And it’s finally here, the day to get my hair cut. I’m so excited because I’m a mom now, so I don’t have much time to go out on my own to do things like this. And I’m going to show you the whole process of how to do that. Okay, let’s go to the salon.

Here is the before. The minimum to donate hair for the organization I chose is twelve inches, and I’m sure I’m well over that.

And here is the cut! Hair stylists are usually ready to help with tying your ponytail for a hair donation, but I did bring my own plastic bag to hold it. I also asked ahead of time if it would be okay for me to record a few clips. This is a great idea in case you want to do the same and vlog your own hair donation for INC Giving.

So, step one is done of donating our hair. Step one as in the haircut itself is done. And I do want to talk a little bit about why I do donate my hair. So it’s not my first time donating. It’s a full circle moment, really, because I first got inspired by a young INC Giving volunteer years ago and she donated her hair. And she said something really specific that has stuck with me since…

JAELYN ISIP: We cut my hair and gave it to kids who have cancer so they could have hair. So I’m giving away my hair so they could have hair too.

DARLENE: That stuck with me. So here we are, many years later, doing the same thing. That is why we come back every few years to donate our hair.

There are different organizations out there to choose from to donate your hair to, each with their own requirements and instructions, but all of it is easy. Make sure you check in on those details before you cut your hair, so that you’re doing the most good you can do.

The organization I’m working with actually mentioned that it’s mostly girls asking for longer wigs, so the longer the better. Looks like my ponytail is almost 24 inches! This is definitely the longest I’ve donated so far.

And now it’s time to send off your hair donation. Pack up your hair and hair donation form, double check that you write the correct address for the organization, and there you go! You just donated your hair, and you did your own act of kindness for the INC Giving Project.

We just sent off our hair donation, my hair donation. And as you saw, it’s really easy. You just take your ponytail, you put it in a plastic bag, you put it in a mailer. I’m happy I was able to share it with my girl, Addelyn. And we’ll be back in a few years to keep the hair donation tradition going. As long as our hair grows we’ll keep doing this. Bye! Can we say bye bye? Bye bye!
