Ayudando a Los Necesitados en Panamá

Angelica: El mundo de hoy es realmente diferente. Meses de mascarillas, distanciamiento social y ansiedad por el futuro nos ha afectado a todos. Pero no podemos olvidar que siempre hay tiempo para hacer algo bueno. Soy Angelica Fisher, y bienvenidos a otro episodio de Iglesia De Cristo Mundo.

Viajé a Panamá para ser parte de un evento de Ayuda Humanitaria—antes de que se instituyeran bloqueos en el país.  Nuestro objetivo era brindar ayuda y esperanza.

Angelica: (narración) Antes de que la pandemia de coronavirus llega a las costas de todos los países,  la Iglesia De Cristo estaba en pleno funcionamiento, patrocinando eventos de divulgación a gran escala en todo el mundo, incluido Panamá.

Después de aterrizar en el aeropuerto internacional de Tocumen, no nos tomó demasiado tiempo llegar al corazón de Panamá—la ciudad de Panamá. Rodeado de torres de edificios, hermosas aguas oceánicas y solo la atmósfera. Quería saber más sobre esta maravillosa ciudad. Muchas personas compartieron sus ideas sobre lo que hace que Panamá sea emocionante, incluido el lado menos conocido de esta colorida ciudad.

Entre ellos estaba Rolando Mosley, quien fue conocido por trabajar con funcionarios del gobierno para ayudar a la gente de la ciudad de Panamá. Aunque la vida no fue fácil para Rolando, está determinado a ayudar a otros a evitar una infancia como la suya.

Rolando Mosley: Tuve una infancia muy difícil. Conozco lo que es necesidad. Mi mamá me crió sin la presencia de un padre y mi niñez fue muy dura, pero mi mamá nos enseñó con los poquito que teníamos de ayudar a mucha gente; y eso se quedó grabado en mi corazón como un legado.

Angelica: (narración) En 2018, alrededor del 12.7 por ciento de los panameños vivía por debajo del umbral de pobreza. Y eso ha llevado que sus vidas sean aún más complicadas.

Rolando: Panamá es un país hermoso y lastimosamente las riquezas no están bien distribuidas, llega para algun solo sector, pero aquí en Panamá hay riquezas.

Angelica: (narración) Desde el inicio de COVID-19, la tasa de desempleo en Panamá saltó de 7.07 por ciento en 2019 a aproximadamente 8.8 por ciento en 2020, con muchas familias luchando por sobrevivir.

Rolando: Y creo que comenzar allí con establecer leyes que sean en beneficio realmente para el pueblo para que los panameños puedan tener oportunidades.

Angelica: (narracion) Rolando se ha asociado con personas como Aldo Garcia, que ha visto la gran realidad de las personas y lo que se enfrentan a diario en Panamá.

Aldo Garcia: Nuestra organización tienen más de 30 años; 34 años trabajando en este país, hemos trabajado con las uñas y dientes porque no ha habido una institución que nos había podido ayudar, pero en todos estos tiempos trabajamos con gente en la calle, con indigentes, con la gente que duerme en los parques, que duermen debajo de los puentes, que duermen en las aceras, duermen afuera de lo hospitales.

Angelica: Organizaciones como Una Luz En Mi Camino luchan para combatir los problemas que afectan a sus comunidades.

Representante de Una Luz En Mi Camino: Nos encontramos con el problema de chicos que consumen droga, entonces también trabajamos en este aspecto y que también alejarlos del “pandillerismo” , que es uno de los problemas más fuerte que encontramos en la comunidad; lo que es el pandillerismo y deserción escolar.

Aldo: pero nadie, los gobiernos—nadie nos ha ayudado en este país.

Rolando: Todo lo que tiene que ver con ayudar a mi gente mi pueblo los niños. Es mi pasión es mi trabajo. Yo tengo una deuda con mi patria con mis generaciones y esto lo hago de todo corazón.

Angelica: (narración) Rolando fue presentado a una organización que quería proporcionar ayuda y dar esperanza a la gente de Panamá. Un proyecto global conocido como ayuda humanitaria, a través de la Fundación Félix Y. Manalo, el brazo voluntario de la Iglesia De Cristo.

Rolando: Se vea esa unidad por un solo propósito que ayudar es de servir de hacer por los demás y valió la pena. Averigüe a lo qué hacen, cómo lo hacen y nosotros nos propusimos en nuestro corazón dar una milla más para que todo quede un trabajo de excelencia hemos aprendido también que muchos detalles lo que tiene que ver con la logística actividades macro como esta.

Angelica: Le quiero dar la bienvenida a todos nuestros invitados están aquí con nosotros el día de hoy. 

Angelica: A pesar de haber tomado parte de Ayuda Humanitarias anteriormente,  fue un evento como ningún otro que haya visto, cientos de personas trabajando día y noche para poder brindar apoyo a esta gran comunidad.

Rolando: Al escuchar las noticias de parte de la fundación, [la Iglesia De Cristo],  dije “Wow.” Esto no lo está haciendo mucha gente de dar por los demás.

Angelica: Y la gente llegó en buses, a pie, junto con sus familias, todos los que llevaban sus historias de sus luchas.

Izomeri Frances: Hay bastantes en la calle, duermen debajo de los puentes, entre los ríos, en lugares que mucha gente no los pueda ver.

Angelica: (narración) Y ahora, miles de ojos verían a una organización que proporciona alivio y esperanza. Un proyecto global que ayuda a los desatendidos a los pobres y aquellos en circunstancias desafortunadas.

Hermano Eduardo Javier: Primeramente, y ante todo, queremos agradecer a nuestro Todopoderoso Dios por permitirnos estar reunidos hoy.

Angelica: Un proyecto global que ayuda a los desatendidos, a los pobres y aquellos en circunstancias desafortunadas.

Luis Martinez: Yo en verdad era muy…  En ver el video que ustedes mostraban y como lo hacen en otros países y de la misma forma que lo hacen aquí en Panamá.

Angelica: Más de 4,000 personas fueron proporcionadas con paquetes de cuidado que incluían productos enlatados, sandwiches, paquetes de bebida y de fideos, productos de higiene y una bolsa de arroz de 10 lbs.

Beneficiaria: Bueno, pobreza es extrema y mucha de los jóvenes también, no hay programa para ellos que los ayude como este tu tienes ha apoyado día de hoy.

Angelica: (narracion) Las organizaciones como el Centro de Mujeres de Panamá, Dando la Milla Extra y la Academia de Fútbol Roman Torres recibieron donaciones monetarias para ayudar a levantar a la gente de Panamá. Y la respuesta fue abrumadora.

Rolando: Mucha gente con necesidad en panamà vea cómo la gente vinieron aquí porque de verdad hay necesidad. Se necesita y en verdad pues la agradezco la fundación, la organización por todo lo que han hecho.

Marcia Smart: Estamos agradecidos con las personas responsables de su fundación que hacen este trabajo se acuerdan de los panameños, que el trabajo es muy duro pero aún así hay muchas necesidades. Yo creo que por eso hay muchas fundaciones, que hacemos su trabajo y hacemos la diferencia de la vida de muchas personas.

Jemmy Cano:  Bueno. Queremos agradecerle por esta iniciativa, la verdad. De parte de nuestra academia, a nuestro equipo de trabajo, nuestro fundador de que sigan este tipo de proyectos que ayudan mucho a nuestro país ya muchas comunidades y muchos países donde ustedes visitan. Les agradecemos.

Doriam M.: Bueno, yo la verdad estoy muy agradecido con la fundación que ustedes tienen de “Mis Paisanos, Mis Hermanos.” Esta fundación nos abrió muchas puertas pensándolo bien porque nosotros trabajamos con un centro de rehabilitación, trabajamos con personas con problemas de alcól, drogas y con indigentes, primero que nada con indigentes. Es muy fundamental este dinero que nos acaban de dar porque puede resolver y abrir muchas más puertas de lo cual Dios siempre seguirá bendiciendo y estará bendiciendo las personas buenas de buen corazón.

Rogelio Rigüal: Considero que las primeras palabras son la gratitud a Dios y al Ministro Ejecutivo, pidiendo lo que continúan esta labor por cuanto aquí no solamente está llevando lo material sino la parte espiritual en el nombre de Dios que creo que fundamental.

Eduardo: Ya tenemos un centro de estudio pero vamos ahora a equiparlo que es lo que más se nos puede ayudar con esta actividad. Estamos muy agradecidos con usted Ministro [Ejecutivo] Eduardo Manalo, de verdad este apoyo es enriquecido y nos da bendición para nosotros, para toda la organización y toda la comunidad. De verdad, gracias.

Tomás Herrera: Esperamos seguir trabajando con ustedes y ser parte de su brazo fuerte aquí en este país para el auxilio de las personas en riesgo social, las poblaciones marginadas en pobreza y demás. Muchísimas gracias y Dios les bendiga abundantemente.

Residente Local: Gracias a esta fundación que ha venido hasta aquí, que ha ayudado, esta ayudando por todo el mundo. Le agradezco mucho. Tenemos gente aquí, tenemos mucha fundación aquí que no dan el bienestar, el aporte al país, a la sociedad, la gente más humilde del país. Le agradezco, gracias.

Aldo García:  Qué bueno que ha llegado una fundación como esta que haya reconocido y nos ha dado el mérito y el valor por lo que hemos trabajado. Nos gustaría ser parte de ustedes y seguir trabajando a nivel, no solamente en este país sino todo Centroamérica.

Rolando: Hay una luz, hay una esperanza y le quiero dar gracias a mis hermanos en [la Iglesia De Cristo]. Forman parte grupo del trabajo y quisiera pues que muchos lugares en Panamá se visiten hay mucha necesidad y esta actividad ha sido de mucho impacto. Hoy todo Panamá por esta actividad va a conocer la Iglesia de Cristo en trabajo de equipo. Ustedes muy bienvenidos muy amados se va a hablar mucho va llegar a grandes esferas.

Angelica: Queremos agradecer a Rolando y a todos los representantes y asistentes durante el evento de Ayuda Humanitaria. Helping those in Need In Panama

Angelica Fisher: The world today is really different. Months of masks, social distancing, and anxiety about the future have taken their toll on all of us. But we can’t forget that there is always time to do some good.

I’m Angelica Fisher, and welcome to another episode of Iglesia De Cristo Mundo.

Angelica: I traveled to Panama to be a part of an Aid to Humanity event—before lockdowns were instituted in the country. It was our goal to bring help and hope. Before the coronavirus pandemic surged worldwide, the Church Of Christ was in full operation— sponsoring large scale outreach events all over the world, including Panama.

Angelica: (voiceover) After landing in Tocumen International Airport, it didn’t take us too long to get to the heart of Panama—its capital, Panama City. We were surrounded by towering buildings, beautiful ocean waters and just—the atmosphere. I wanted to know more about this wonderful city. Many people shared their insights about what makes Panama exciting, including the lesser known side of this colorful city. 

Among them was Rolando Mosley—well known for working with government officials to help the people of Panama City. Although life hasn’t been easy for Rolando, he is determined to help others avoid a childhood like his. 

Rolando Mosley: I had a difficult childhood. I know what necessity is. My mother raised me without the presence of a father and though my childhood was hard, my mother taught us, with the little that we had, we could help many people; and that was engraved in my heart as a legacy.

Angelica: (voiceover) In 2018, around 12.7 percent of Panamanians lived below the poverty line. Poverty has made lives even more complicated.

Rolando: Panama is a beautiful country and sadly, the wealth isn’t well distributed, it ends up in one sector, but here in Panama there is wealth.

Angelica: (voiceover) Since the onset of COVID-19, the unemployment rate in Panama jumped from 7.07 percent in 2019 to an estimated 8.8 percent in 2020, with many families struggling to survive.

Rolando: I believe we need to start with laws that will be of benefit for the people, so that the Panamanians can have opportunities.

Angelica: (voiceover) Rolando has partnered with people like Aldo Garcia, who has seen the grim reality people face every day in Panama.

Aldo García: Our organization is over 30 years old; 34 years working in this country, we have worked tooth-and-nail because there has not been an institution that has been able to help us, but in all these times we work with people on the street, homeless, people sleeping in the parks, sleeping under the bridges, sleeping on the sidewalks, sleeping outside the hospitals.

Angelica: Organizations like Una Luz En Mi Camino struggle to fight against the issues plaguing their communities.

Representative from Una Luz En Mi Camino: We find ourselves with the problem of young people who consume drugs, then we also work in that aspect and to get them away from gang activity, that is one of the strongest issues that we find in the community; gang activity and kids dropping out of school.

Aldo: No one, the government, no one is helping us in this country.

Rolando: Everything that has to do with helping my people, my town, the children, it’s my passion and it is my work. I have a debt to my country, to my generations and this I do with all my heart.

Angelica: (voiceover) Rolando was introduced to an organization that wanted to provide aid and give hope to the people of Panama.  A global project known as Aid to Humanity, through the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation, the volunteering arm of the Church Of Christ.

Rolando: That unity is shown by one purpose that is: to help, to serve, to do for others, and it was worth it.

I learned how you do what you do and we purposed in our heart to go the extra mile so that this work is one of excellence. We have learned that many details have to do with logistics, in large-scale events like this one.

Angelica: I want to welcome all of our guests who are here with us today.

Angelica: Despite being part of Aid to Humanity events before, it was an event like no other that I’ve seen, seeing hundreds of people work together day and night to be able to give back to this great community.

Rolando: From hearing the news from the foundation, the Church Of Christ, I said “Wow.” There aren’t many people who are doing this, giving to others.

Angelica: (voiceover) And so, people arrived on buses, on foot, together with their families, all of whom carried stories of their own struggles.

Izomeris Frances: Well, there are few on the street, they sleep under bridges, between rivers, in places that a lot of people can’t see.

Angelica: And now, thousands of eyes would see an organization providing relief and hope.

Brother Eduardo Javier: First of all, before everything, we want to thank our Almighty God for allowing us to gather today.

Angelica: A global project helping the underserved, impoverished and those in unfortunate circumstances.

Luis Martinez: I really was very… In watching the video that you showed and how they do it in other countries and in the same way that they do it here in Panama.

Angelica: (voiceover) Over 4,000 people were provided with care packages that included canned goods, noodles, sandwiches, drink packages, hygiene products and a 10lb bag of rice.

Recipient: Well, poverty is extreme and many of the youths as well, there isn’t any program to help them like this that you have supported them today.

Angelica: (voiceover) Organizations like the Panamanian Women’s Center, Giving the Extra Mile and the Roman Torres Soccer Academy received monetary donations to help uplift the people of Panama.

The response was overwhelming.

Jemmy Cano:  We want to thank you for this initiative, truly. On behalf of our academy, our work team, our founder, that you continue this type of project that greatly helps our country and many communities and many countries where you visit. We are grateful.

Doriam M.: Honestly, I am very grateful to the foundation that you have with “My Countrymen, My Brethren.” This foundation has opened many doors. Thinking about it, because we work for a rehabilitation center, we work with people with alcohol problems, drugs, and homeless; primarily with the homeless. The money that you have given us is fundamental because it can solve and open many doors from which God will always keep blessings and will bless the people with good hearts.

Rogelio Rigual: I consider that the first words are gratitude to God and to the Executive Minister, asking that they continue this work because here is not only about carrying the material but the spiritual part in the name of God that I believe is fundamental.

Eduardo: We already have a study center but now we are going to equip it which is what can help us the most with this activity. We are very grateful to you [Executive Minister] Eduardo Manalo, truly this support is enriched and it gives us blessings, to our whole organization, and all the community. Truly, thank you. 

Tomás Herrera: We hope to continue working with you and be part of your strong arm here in this country for the assistance of people with social risk, outcast population in poverty and so on. Thank you so much and God bless you abundantly.

Local Resident: (crying) I thank this foundation that has come all the way here that has helped and is helping all over the world. I am very thankful to you. We have people here, we have so many foundations that don’t provide that well being, the support to the country, to society, to the most humble of this country. I am grateful, thank you.

Aldo: It’s good that a foundation like this has come that has recognized and given us the merit and courage for what we’ve worked for. We would like to be part of you and continue to work at the level, not only in this country but all of Central America.

Rolando: There is a light, there is a hope, and I want to thank my brethren in the Church Of Christ. They are part of that working group and I wish that many places in Panama to be visited. There is so much need and this activity has been of great impact. Today all of Panama through this activity will know about the Church Of Christ due to this teamwork. You are very welcomed, very loved. It is going to be talked about and it will reach great heights.

But, wow, truly what the Church of Christ has done with “My Countrymen, My Brethren,” it’s here. For me, it’s here in the heart of Panama.
