When someone walks into bible study for the first time, I’m always curious about what they’re thinking. What history are they carrying with them? What stories have they heard about God? What made them say yes that day.
The moment they walk into a bible study is just the beginning, though. What comes next is determined by the questions they ask after the bible study is done and everyone has gone to socialize; the questions they only ask when it’s just them, the minister, and the Bible. Those quiet moments, those real questions – that’s when a simple yes to attend becomes more than just a yes.
The Questions That Actually Change Things
At INCMedia.org, we get to see these stories come through, and no matter how many we’ve listened to, each one is a bit different. But there’s always this eagerness to find the answer. That eagerness is what makes each story worth telling, and what makes me hopeful for whoever is reading this right now.
But sometimes it takes a while for the real questions to surface. With AI and search engines available anytime and anywhere, most people are more comfortable asking their questions from the comfort of their own home. On incmedia.org, we often see those searches point people directly to the website because of the content we produce. “Why would God need a church if I can have a personal relationship with Him?” “Is faith alone really enough?” “What makes someone a true Christian anyway?” Those types of questions are answered in videos, blogs and podcasts.
They’re the questions that keep people awake at night, the ones that come from a genuine hunger to know if this faith thing is real or just another system designed to make you feel guilty.
And once they find their way to INCMedia.org, they encounter something they didn’t expect: real stories from people who asked those exact same questions and stayed long enough to find biblical answers.
Real Seekers with Real Questions About God, Salvation and Life
Meet Jeff: The Lifelong Searcher
Jeff spent 30 years searching. He went to the LDS church for three decades, attended Catholic masses, Baptist services, and Church of God congregations. Every denomination promised truth, but something felt off. Different ministers had different interpretations. No one seemed to teach straight from Scripture without adding their own “twist.”
When he finally walked into an Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) chapel at age 63, something shifted. He recalls: “I looked for a place that would teach straight from the Bible, not twist anything. When I walked in and felt that family feeling, everything changed. It went from blaming God to being thankful for God.”

They’ll hear the verses about obedience, about following Christ’s example, about being part of His body, and suddenly having faith becomes more of a starting point than the final destination.

Meet Cynthia: The Parent Who Wanted More for Her Kids

But then (and this is the part I love) they come back the next week. They ask more questions. They start reflecting on their own lives. They start connecting the dots and realize that in this moment, God is asking them to learn, to listen and obey His commandments.

Realizing what a True Christian is According to Christ
Then there’s the seeker who starts because they were curious about the faith journey of a friend. After a few weeks, they begin asking probing questions in bible study, not to poke holes, but because they’re genuinely trying to understand. They start noticing contradictions between what they’ve believed and what Scripture actually says. That’s not comfortable, but they keep coming.
Then, slowly, I notice they start showing up earlier. They’re bringing a notebook. They’re referring to something from last week’s lesson when we talk about the topic this week. Their questions shift from defensive to constructive. Instead of “Why do I have to do this?” it becomes “How do I understand this better?”
And then comes the moment I witness again and again: the moment they realize that being a true Christian according to Christ (our episode on exactly this topic explores it beautifully) means something specific: following His instructions, belonging to His Church, actually believing what He taught. Not the generic “spiritual but not religious” faith they came in with.

Meet Donovan: The Skeptic God Turned Around
Donovan wasn’t looking to change religion. After being stationed at Lemoore Naval Air Station in California, he and his wife Judith were trying to find a good congregation, but he was hesitant. Everything felt foreign, different from what he knew.
When they walked into their first Iglesia Ni Cristo worship service and heard that this was the only Church that would be saved, he was upset. Shocked, really. At the end of the service, he told his wife to get the kids in the van. They were leaving, and he wasn’t going back.
But something happened on the drive away. Donovan pulled over several miles down the road. His wife asked why he was turning around. To this day, he says he can’t fully explain it. But he said, “We’re going back.” He returned to that chapel, and that’s when God really touched his heart.

Donovan had spent his whole life with faith, but never with clarity. Once he started bible studies, the questions that had haunted him for 35 years finally had answers. He discovered prophecies in Isaiah that no other church had ever shown him. Sixty-five chapters of Scripture suddenly made sense. He wasn’t just believing; he was understanding.
Once someone has decided to embrace the teachings taught inside the Church Of Christ, once they’ve started making choices based on obedience rather than comfort, hardship becomes a test. And they suddenly understand God’s words in a completely different way.
