Six local organizations receive $10,000 in charitable donation funding at Aid to Humanity event

FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS IN MARYLAND & DC RECEIVE AID FROM FELIX Y. MANALO FOUNDATION, INC.

‘Aid to Humanity’ U.S. Outreach Events Continue to Offer Free Resources and Support Local Organizations

AUGUST 14 (MARYLAND) – Community organizations, leaders and hundreds of residents from Maryland, Washington D.C. and Virginia united in Prince George’s County Aug. 12 to support each other’s growth and well being at an Aid to Humanity event from the Felix Y. Manalo (FYM) Foundation, the charitable arm of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC or Church Of Christ).

“We finally have an opportunity through your organization, the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation, to really work together across all lines, across all constituent groups, across ages,” Capitol Heights, Md. Mayor Shawn M. Maldon said. “And there can be nothing better than that sort of giving. That is where the true blessing is.”

2,000 free care packages of food, back to school supplies and basic necessities were offered to residents, with a free meal, free clothes for selection, health and wellness screenings, children’s games and entertainment at the INC’s Temple Hills Congregation at 5225 Hagan Rd. in Marlow Heights, Maryland.

Six local organizations were also honored by the FYM Foundation during the event’s opening ceremony, to support the positive social impact of their work and “the lives [they] touch everyday,” as written on the $10,000 check donations they each accepted.

Beneficiaries included Reality Check Mentoring, Inc, Seventh Councilmanic District Constituent Fund Committee, Inc., Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital, United Federation of Fil-Am Educators (UNIFFIED Maryland Chapter), George Washington University Heart & Vascular Institute and Maryland Marshal Service.

The ceremony included additional words from distinguished guests Prince George’s County Council Member The Honorable Rodney C. Streeter with Monica Watson, Minister of Economic Affairs Jose Victor V. Chan of the Philippine Embassy and Maryland’s 24th District Delegate Andrea Harrison.

Maryland is one of eight regions in the U.S. serviced by the FYM Foundation’s Aid to Humanity this August. The outreach series started in New York and will continue in Washington, Tennessee, Arizona, Northern and Southern California.

Earlier this year, Aid to Humanity events helped 36 local organizations in Canada, serving thousands in need along the way,  as part of its global aim to provide opportunity for those most in need, and contribute to supporting peaceful and productive communities. Other projects include eco-farming in Africa and the distribution of basic supplies to residents of favelas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Volunteers of the foundation have also offered relief aid in the aftermath of natural calamities, such as hurricanes and earthquakes in the Philippines and other disaster stricken areas.
