Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) Holds Care For Humanity in Los Angeles County
January 24, 2025 (PASADENA, California) — While the devastating Eaton Fire continues to burn, affecting over 100,000 residents in the area, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC or Church Of Christ) of Los Angeles County made sure the community of Altadena and its surroundings received immediate disaster relief through their Care for Humanity event held at the place of worship of the local congregation of Pasadena on January 18, 2025.
The residents, some of whom lost their homes in the fire, were invited to the event to receive a free hot meal, cases of water to bring with them to their evacuation locations, and a bag of relief goods (containing food, masks, and other items to assist in recovery). They also received inspiring and uplifting words of encouragement from INC ministers at the site.
“This is very important, to help them in their time of need…They have lost their homes, everything. We can give them things they need, though it’s limited. But [it is very important] also to let them feel that they are loved, and that we care for them,” stated Brother Artemio Pilon, Jr., District Minister of Los Angeles County where 14 congregations of the INC can be found along with dozens more congregations in nearby counties.
The assistance provided by the Care for Humanity event, in collaboration with the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation, aims to address immediate concerns of the residents affected by the wildfires like the members of the De Ocampo family who were among those who attended the event. They were very thankful that the Care for Humanity provided cases of drinking water for the affected residents.
“The water, it’s so limited right now. We could really use that…My parents are so thankful for the water, and also the food that was in the bags as well,” said Harvey de Ocampo. His family discovered that their house was one of only three in their neighborhood to have survived the fire.
