Marie: After the worship service at the local (congregation) of San Juan, my mom was given a small package, a small envelope coming from Brother Eduardo Manalo. I was the one opened the package. And I was so surprised because number one, it was one of the things that we’ve never seen, yet.

Michael: (In Tagalog) The historical journey was led by a seven-man group, which was Brother Eraño G. Manalo, Cipriano Sandoval, Pedro Meimban II, Herminio Mariano Sr., Domingo Pineda, Benjamin Morales, and my father, Brother Macario Tiu Jr.
Marie: (In Tagalog) When they saw the Executive Minister, they had prayed for that moment for a long time.

IN 2009, HE WROTE DOWN NOTES ABOUT THE TRIP. THESE ARE HIS NOTES.
Marie: (In Tagalog) Some were speechless. Some wept. Maybe on some of their faces, especially the brethren, was their happiness and eagerness.

DURING TYPHOON ONDOY, MARIE AND MICHAEL’S FAMILY LOST MANY OF THEIR FAMILY PHOTOS AND KEEPSAKES BUT WERE ABLE TO SALVAGE THEIR DAD’S NOTES.
Marie: He said that we would be able to find his signature on the scroll on the lower left-hand corner of all the scrolls that were signed during their trip to Hawaii and in San Francisco.

WITHOUT ANY PHOTOS OF THEIR OWN, THEIR DAD USED THE GOD’S MESSAGE MAGAZINES TO SHARE STORIES FROM THAT TRIP.
Marie: One thing that struck me is that they really looked for the brethren.
Marie: (In Tagalog) They looked for the brethren one by one.
Marie: Which means, they looked really hard and tried to find where the brethren are. They never grew tired of looking for the brethren from the Church.
Michael: (In Tagalog) My father was very fortunate because he was one of those whom the Church Administration trusted to be a part of this important history of the Church.

THEIR DAD PASSED AWAY IN 2011.
LIKE ANYONE WHO HAS LOST A PARENT, MARIE AND MICHAEL HOLD ON TO THE FEW MEMENTOS THEY HAVE LEFT OF HIM.
AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEY TRY TO LIVE BY THE LESSONS HE PASSED ON.
Marie: The most important thing that he taught us was his integrity and love for the Church.
Michael: (In Tagalog) We all need to be firm, strong, and faithful as servants of our Lord God.
Marie: Those are the things that were taught to them by Brother Eraño Manalo. And now it is being taught to us by Brother Eduardo Manalo.

LIKE IT WAS TAUGHT TO THEM, THE WORSHIP SERVICE CONTINUES TO BE A VITAL PART OF THEIR LIVES.
Marie: Because in the worship service, this is where God is answering your problems.
Michael: (In Tagalog) I also learned from Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, from his teachings, that we should always hope, be firm, and hold on to what God can do for us because only He can help us.
Marie: And that for me is the most important thing that he has taught to each and every one of us.

IN JUNE OF 2018, BROTHER EDUARDO MENTIONED THAT HE HAD RECENTLY SEEN PICTURES OF THEIR DAD.
PICTURES, FROM BROTHER ERAÑO’S CAMERA IN 1968, THAT HE WANTED THEIR FAMILY TO HAVE.
PICTURES THE FAMILY DIDN’T KNOW EXISTED.
Celia: (In Tagalog) I’m glad because I was able to see that they were together like that, happy, and I feel that they were a part of this moment of the Church. Because our old picture was lost, it got wet.
Interviewer: What was the first photo that you saw when you first opened that?
Marie: The first photo was the photo he had when they were in San Francisco. I guess they were outside after the worship service. And he was leaning on the car and that was the photo that I first saw. And it reminded me, “I kind of look like him.”
Interviewer: What did you feel?
Marie: I was very elated, happy, and I was sad because he should have been here! We are greatly humbled and we really appreciate what our Executive Minister has given us. Those are the things that we have never seen and he took the time to really give this to us and look for it, and that means a lot to our family.

LAST SUMMER, 50 YEARS AFTER THEIR DAD’S HISTORIC TRIP, THE TIU FAMILY TRAVELLED TO EWA BEACH TO WITNESS ANOTHER HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE CHURCH.
Marie: During that time, it was my father who went over there and now it’s our time to be in that place.
Michael: (In Tagalog) Our beloved Brother Eduardo, we can truly feel your love and concern for the Church. It’s almost as if you never rest just so you can check on our well-being.
Marie: (In Tagalog) We could never repay you for the love you showed to each one of us. And from that, we don’t know how to show you our gratitude but to pray to God for you, that He may make you even stronger and give you a long life so that you may be able to lead the Church.
Celia: (In Tagalog) We thank you very much Brother Eduardo for loving us and our family.
