As the city announced that Brownsville, Brooklyn will now receive $9 million in the wake of the recent mass shooting which injured 11 and killed one person, the Church of Christ and the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation Inc. invited people from the Brownsville community to come to their Aid to Humanity event and enjoy “goodwill” bags of food and supplies in Brownsville. The date was Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Brownsville Recreational Center, the scene of the July 27, 2019 shooting.
FYM organizers said, “In the wake of the mass shootings across the United States, the Felix. Y. Manalo Foundation extends a helping hand and moral support to…Brownsville.”
Volunteers from the FYM Foundation gave out the bags filled with canned goods and school supplies. Hundreds of people sat outside in the hot sun, as wellness checks, entertainment and music were provided. The event was held with the help of groups such as Daniel Goodine’s Men Elevating Leadership, Pitkin Avenue BID, Elite Learners, Little Brother NYC, and NIA Theatrical Production Company.
