Church Of Christ Continues Immediate Aid to Humanity Worldwide

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (June 11, 2017) – More than 20,000 parcels of free food were distributed this week to families and residents in four Rio de Janeiro communities, from the international religious organization Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC or Church Of Christ in English, Igreja De Cristo in Portuguese).

Held consecutively from June 8-11, thousands of residents in the Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Portuguesa, Vila Isabel and Rocinha neighborhoods gathered to witness a video in Portuguese, explaining the different humanitarian projects of the Church, as well as an introduction to the INC faith – a program of events seen similarly during the numerous community events held around the world by the INC.
“Much emphasis has been placed on the Church’s outreach and socio-civic activities, which seek to benefit both INC members and most especially the less fortunate communities internationally who need help,” said INC General Auditor Glicerio B. Santos, Jr.

“We know it is a duty to provide not only spiritual needs, but assistance for our neighbors in any manner possible – global commitment to share the INC faith, through acts of kindness.”

Event organizers and volunteers traveled from the United States and the Philippines, joining local members of the INC congregations in Brazil and public authorities in greeting and distributing the food parcels to the thousands who lined up even hours before the announced times each day. A total of 20,000 food parcels filled with basic food items were handed out by the conclusion of the series of events.

Francesca Lima, a recipient in Portuguesa, said her community is thankful and hopeful that humanitarian projects like this continue.

The Ayuda Para A Humanidade or Aid to Humanity events are a labor of INC’s socio-civic programs to combat poverty and assist struggling communities, particularly through the Felix Y. Manalo (FYM) Foundation and also the worldwide volunteer force of the INC Giving Project.

Partnering with local governments and community establishments, the ongoing international outreach events provide services for people to lead healthy and productive lives, while promoting community development. The INC continues to fulfill its pledge of extending help through aid and services, promoting education, socio-economic well-being, environmental awareness and health improvement.

Spiritual missions in countries of Latin America, Europe and Africa have most recently increased – a result of the INC’s growing membership and availability of houses of worship worldwide.

The Church’s unprecedented growth under the leadership of Executive Minister Eduardo V. Manalo is expected to continue in 2017.
