Why Seekers Chose the Church Of Christ?
Mark Hargis, Jr (Joined the Church Of Christ in 2014): After I joined the military, I toured the world. I was able to go to different countries around the world. It opened my mind up to more than what the Catholic church was, but I was also interested to learn what else was out there, that I can try to have an understanding to really know just what life is really about in our pursuit to understand who God really is.
Jeff Bennet (Former Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints): I grew up into a church. I spent about 30 years in that, it was kind of like there was something not quite right. I never felt comfortable about it.
Michaela Serafica (Former Protestant): I was already doubting if there was a God. I was like, maybe God was just there. God was just there to, like, give people hope. Maybe He’s just a figure of thought.
Jeff Bennet (Former Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints): One of the things that I looked for over all the years was to find some place that would teach straight from the Bible. Not twist anything, or not allow things to happen within a church that was against the bible because I have studied the bible enough to know what was right and what was wrong. So I was kind of like in the middle there.
Rashad Christmas (Bergen, New Jersey): My whole thought was, there’s a whole bunch of churches in the world. And I didn’t understand why that was so.
Zsolti Horvath (Former Catholic): I said, who is God? But also, like, what has God done for us? Like what has He done? What can he do for us, right? There were just no answers in my opinion, at least.
Brian Ramirez (Joined the Church Of Christ in 2017): I still didn’t feel guided. I didn’t feel like I was having God truthfully there next to me, next to our family at that time. And I did an online search for Iglesia Ni Cristo near me, and I found a congregation which was in Oxnard, California. Let me just go and see what this is all about.
Mark Hoffert: I suppose, the number one, the biggest question I asked, is about the relationship with Jesus and God. Why isn’t Jesus God? And then, you know, he explained to me. And the one thing that really impressed me when I asked questions, I didn’t get an opinion or view from that minister. He opened the Bible and said, “There you go, Brother.” There’s that one. And he’d say, “Next question.” Again, he’d open the Bible, the answer is there. And that really, that was another driving part of wow. The “wow factor” of that’s impressive.
Brian Ramirez: And, I was completely intrigued and blown away at how the service was done. It was different from anything I had seen. But it didn’t feel foreign. It felt right. And even the orderliness of the service. That told me there was a focus on God, just walking in, that we’re not here to distract ourselves. We’re here to worship God.
Zsolti Horvath (Former Catholic): The turning point to joining the Church Of Christ was taking that week off and just thinking about what I heard during the first bible study. And when I signed up to be a bible student, I basically already had my mind made up, I want to say like 99%. Because I just wanted to hear more. I wanted to know more about what the Bible says. And I didn’t want it to be watered down, and I didn’t want it to be someone’s opinion. I wanted it to come straight from the book. Sorry, straight from the Bible.
Rashad Christmas: It just proves to me that, you know, this is real. And then you have a church that is showing you the scriptures, and then showing you the proof that matches up with the prophecies.
Michaela Sarafica: Now I know as a member, now I know God will always be with me. And at any point in my life that I am going through something, God will always be a prayer away.
Brian Ramirez: I think once I found the Church Of Christ, I was able to feel that feeling of safety and care and love. Now inside the Church Of Christ, I feel like no matter what I face, I can always go through it. I can get through it because of God and being in His true Church.
