After the Chapel purchase in Swift Current, a realtor finds the true faith; and Music helps share faith in Hawaii.
HOST: In this week’s INC News World: another house of worship is purchased in Manitoba; a musical Evangelical Mission is held on the Hawaiian islands; your INC News World starts now.
HOST: Welcome to INC News World, I’m Richie Ferrera coming to you from the INC Media Studios in Los Angeles, California. In Canada, the country’s religious landscape over the years has been changing. A new Pew research shows that
Catholicism, the majority religion in Canada, declined from 47 to 39%. Protestantism plummeted from 41 to 27% and now only one in ten Canadians belong to other faiths.

HOST: But in the city of Swift Current, a local realtor became a part of that changing landscape while playing an important role in the purchase of a historic chapel building. Michael Robinson has more on this story.
CHERYLL OLEDAN (REALTOR – SWIFT CURRENT, SASKATCHEWAN): Swift Current is a small city with a soul of [a] small town.
MICHAEL ROBINSON: A resident for 11 years, Cheryll has been a realtor in Swift Current for numerous properties. One of them a community landmark since 1955.
CHERYLL OLEDAN (REALTOR – SWIFT CURRENT, SASKATCHEWAN): This used to be a Catholic church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They used this until 2009.
MICHAEL ROBINSON: Sharing the reason and her feeling on the closing of the community landmark that:

“They don’t have enough funds to use for the renovation so they just leave it and no one cares.” – CHERYLL OLEDAN (REALTOR – SWIFT CURRENT, SASKATCHEWAN)
MICHAEL ROBINSON: And then, a family she knew mentioned their church was looking for a chapel to purchase for their congregation.
CHERYLL OLEDAN (REALTOR – SWIFT CURRENT, SASKATCHEWAN): I sold a house to a beautiful family, the Mariano family. I’ve talked to Rose and Ronnie Mariano and they’re the one who introduced me to the people of the INC that they are looking to purchase their permanent location here in Swift Current.
BROTHER SIDNEY SANTOS (DISTRICT SUPERVISING MINISTER): And once I saw the pictures, I was thrown back because it was a chapel. She gave us a tour of the facilities and she also mentioned that why she knows so much was because that’s where they used to worship.
MICHAEL ROBINSON: Because of Cheryll’s personal ties to the chapel for sale, she would now learn more about the Church Of Christ.
MICHAEL ROBINSON: And Cheryll is now a part of history in facilitating the handing of ownership of the former Catholic chapel over to the Iglesia Ni Cristo, Church Of Christ. The church holds a seating capacity of 400 and is located in Swift Current. Members in the Local Congregation of Swift Current are excited for this new chapter.
CHERYLL OLEDAN (REALTOR – SWIFT CURRENT, SASKATCHEWAN): Well, they were pretty excited about it. They were so happy.
BROTHER SIDNEY SANTOS (DISTRICT SUPERVISING MINISTER): We were able to close the deal, receive the keys and afterwards we were able to also worship God.
MICHAEL ROBINSON: This journey opened the doors for Cheryll to all the more learn about the Church Of Christ.
BROTHER SIDNEY SANTOS (DISTRICT SUPERVISING MINISTER): Even that night after we closed, she attended the worship service that we were able to officiate in Swift Current.
MICHAEL ROBINSON: Cheryll, now a Bible student, is voicing encouraging words to residents in Swift Current about what she learned through the Church Of Christ.
CHERYLL OLEDAN (REALTOR – SWIFT CURRENT, SASKATCHEWAN): I really learn a lot from the Bible study. The way they gave the verses in the Bible, it’s really relevant. There’s no harm in trying and listening. It’s actually very interesting and very informative and you’re going to feel the presence of God.
MICHAEL ROBINSON: Cheryll having an even brighter outlook, seeing a once former Catholic chapel now to be used by the Church Of Christ.
CHERYLL OLEDAN (REALTOR – SWIFT CURRENT, SASKATCHEWAN): I feel that this will be a good place for worship and I will be always proud that I sold this property to Iglesia Ni Cristo.
MICHAEL ROBINSON: And with Swift Current part of the district of Manitoba, this will be the second chapel purchase in this past year. The first, being in Silver Heights. Having a 400 seating-capacity, this community landmark will now become the new home for the residents in Swift Current to learn about the truth in the Church Of Christ just like Cheryll. HOST: And we see how a community spends their day with music sharing what they love most. Taryn Griffin has more on the story.
WIEDELYN MALANOG (MUSICAL DIRECTOR – WAHIAWA, HAWAII): There are nights when we get a little sleep and those are some struggles I guess that I go through with having to balance outside life and fulfilling my duties.
TARYN GRIFFIN: Wiedelyn does her best to make sure she balances everything in her life and knows what to prioritize.
WEIDELYN MALANOG (MUSICAL DIRECTOR – WAHIAWA, HAWAII): No matter how little sleep I get, I know that it’s all so worth it. The feeling that you get performing your duty for God and for the Church.
TARYN GRIFFIN: And what did she perform for?
WEIDELYN MALANOG (MUSICAL DIRECTOR – WAHIAWA, HAWAII): I am the musical director of the Musical EVM. And my role is to teach the songs to the brethren.
TARYN GRIFFIN (MUSICAL DIRECTOR – WAHIAWA, HAWAII): Tonight’s presentation was a Musical Evangelical Mission that comprised of original Christian music based on biblical teachings. Giving those in attendance a glimpse of fundamental teachings inside the Church Of Christ. And for Wiedelyn this meant so much more.
WEIDELYN MALANOG (MUSICAL DIRECTOR – WAHIAWA, HAWAII): We’re reaching out not only to our brethren but to our guests.that we’re inviting tonight and trying to get the message, the words of God out to them and letting them know about the Church. And we can sing these songs for them and to have them enjoy something different.
TARYN GRIFFIN: Like City Council member Heidi Tsuneyoshi.
HEIDI TSUNEYOSHI (HONOLULU CITY COUNCIL MEMBER): This is the first time for me coming to the musical and I found it very uplifting. The message was so good and so many different types of music and types of singers and all sharing very good messages. And this was just a great way to celebrate and provide that message through song, which is, I think, a very relevant way to share the message with those who came for the first time tonight and to re-energize those who are already members of the Church.
TARYN GRIFFIN: An inspiring night for music enthusiasts in Honolulu, Hawaii.
JOEL PEREZ (INC MEMBER – LAOAG CITY): Oh, it’s so inspiring. The last part—it’s so wonderful and so inspiring. It is the music is a very powerful medium, to show and to express the faith and for us to share the faith that we have to other people.
SAMUEL MANGLICMOT (INC MEMBER – MAILE): God inspiring words and it really moved me.
CHRIST BATOON (GUEST): It’s really energetic. And it seemed everyone was really close with each other. So I just felt like a close family, with everyone.
TARYN GRIFFIN: And bringing people closer to the truth.
BROTHER ELMER SARMIENTO (MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL): With them attending our activities like this, they could bring with them this spirit of praising our Almighty God and through the Church Of Christ, to our activities inside the Church, we know that they will feel the presence of the Holy Spirit which makes us different from all other performances outside the Church. And we do hope these visitors that we have, they will come again and feel the love, the Holy Spirit, that God gives to all these people.
TARYN GRIFFIN: Members like Weidelyn see the impact of their faith in Honolulu, Hawaii
WEIDELYN MALANOG (MUSICAL DIRECTOR – WAHIAWA, HAWAII): This is not for our own happiness. This is for God, and for the brethren to strengthen their faith. And to be able to see that and the impact that we can make with these kinds of events it’s inspiring to us as well as, and it strengthens our own faith.
TARYN GRIFFIN: Through propagational activities like these, the members of the Church Of Christ continue to share the truth. To learn more log onto INCMedia.org. Taryn Griffin; Iglesia Ni Cristo News Network; Honolulu, Hawaii.
HOST: Thank you to everyone who submitted photos of their pet family members —we always love to see all of our furry, feathered, and scaled friends!
HOST: For our pet corner this week, meet Kira, she is a fawn pug who just turned 3 a few weeks ago. She really dislikes the rain, which is unfortunate since she lives in “raincouver” aka Vancouver. Some of her favorite foods include healthy cucumbers, lettuce, and apples. Kira loves people and likes to meet new friends, but she tends to ignore other dogs. She is very affectionate with her family and will always find a way to sit on their laps. Kira is definitely the Alegado’s cuddle pug. If you have a pet family member you want to feature, send us a message at INFO@INCMEDIA.ORG with the subject “pet corner.”
HOST: Now it’s time for the segment “Solid Through the Ages.”
HOST: Today we’d like to greet Zeny Caoili a happy birthday! She celebrates 80 happy years and shares this advice to a long and blessed life: “Keep going to worship service and be prayerful. Always perform your duty religiously.” If you see Zeny Caoili in the Local Congregation of South San Diego, remember to greet her a very happy birthday! And if you know of anyone celebrating a milestone birthday or anniversary let us know at INFO@INCMEDIA.ORG with the subject “SOLID THROUGH THE AGES”
HOST: Well that does it for us on INC News World tune in every Friday for new episodes on incmedia.org. I’m Richie Ferrera and on behalf of the entire INC News World team, thank you for joining us. Have a great weekend and God bless!
