El Mensaje: Elegir Cuidadosamente Amigos

Hermano Froilan Enriquez: Bienvenidos, queridos amigos, al programa El Mensaje. El Mensaje es un programa presentado por la Iglesia De Cristo, Soy el Hermano Froilan Enriquez. Los amigos vienen de todas las formas y tamaños.  Desde amigos de la infancia hasta mejores amigos, desde amigos perdidos hace tiempo a nuevos encontrados, tocan la vida de las personas. Hay amigos en la escuela o en el trabajo. También hay amigos en las buenas que siempre están cerca cuando necesitan o quieren algo de su amigo, y luego se van sin dejar rastro cuando su amigo está en algún problema. 

Hno. Froilan: Estos son solo algunos de los muchos tipos de amigos que una persona puede tener a lo largo de su vida. Las personas mantienen a sus amigos por una variedad de razones. Pueden disfrutar de la compañía del otro. Pueden tener en común metas y aspiraciones en la vida.  Asimismo, pueden compartir los mismos intereses y pasatiempos. También pueden necesitar a alguien a quien confiar sus problemas. Quieren a alguien en quien apoyarse para buscar ayuda y buenos consejos cuando los tiempos se ponen difíciles. De acuerdo con la Biblia, en efecto, es una bendición tener verdaderos amigos. Como se indica en Proverbios 17:17:

En todo tiempo ama el amigo, y el hermano nace para tiempo de angustia.

Hno. Froilan: Aquellos que se mantienen leales y amorosos todo el tiempo son verdaderos amigos. Para encontrarlos, uno debe elegir cuidadosamente a sus amigos. Después de todo, los amigos ejercen una poderosa influencia en la vida de uno. Entonces al elegir a nuestros amigos, ¿De quien no debemos ser amigos como lo enseña la Biblia? Esto es lo que se afirma en Proverbios 12:26:

El justo debe elegir cuidadosamente a sus amigos, porque el camino de los malvados los descarría.

Hno. Froilan: Si uno comete el error de hacerse amigo de los malvados, correrá el peligro de ser desviado por ellos. Por eso la Biblia nos instruye: “El justo debe elegir cuidadosamente a sus amigos.” Por lo tanto, es una imprudencia asociarse con personas que llevan una forma de vida perversa. ¿Qué les recuerdan los apóstoles a los verdaderos cristianos en cuanto a la elección de sus amigos y compañeros? Esto es lo que dijo el Apóstol Pablo en 1 Corintios 15:33:

No se dejen engañar: «Las malas compañías corrompen las buenas costumbres».

Hno. Froilan: ¿Cuál es la advertencia del Apóstol Pablo a los verdaderos cristianos?

“No se dejen engañar:”

¿A quién advirtió que engañaría a los verdaderos cristianos?

“Las malas compañías…”

¿Qué declaró el Apóstol Pablo con respecto a las malas compañías?

“Las malas compañías corrompen el buen carácter.”

¿Qué sucederá si una persona se asocia con malos compañeros y, por lo tanto, arruina su buen carácter? Esto es lo que se afirma en Proverbios 13:20:

Hazte sabio caminando con los sabios; Pasa el rato con necios y observa cómo tu vida se desmorona.

Hno. Froilan: ¿Qué sucederá si una persona se asocia con malos compañeros y, por lo tanto, arruina su buen carácter? Experimentaría una gran desgracia. La Biblia dice: “Pasa el rato con necios y observa cómo tu vida se desmorona.”  Nadie en su sano juicio querría que su vida se derrumbara o se fuera a la ruina.  Aparte de esto, ¿qué más les sucedería a los que se hacen amigos de los malvados? Aquí en 2 Timoteo 2:17-18:

y sus enseñanzas se extienden como gangrena. Entre ellos están Himeneo y Fileto, que se han desviado de la verdad. Andan diciendo que la resurrección ya tuvo lugar, y así trastornan la fe de algunos.

Hno. Froilan: Mientras hablaba a los primeros cristianos, el Apóstol Pablo les advirtió sobre la influencia de los malos compañeros al decir: “sus enseñanzas se extienden como gangrena.” Mencionó a Himeneo y Fileto como ejemplos de aquellos que propagan una mala influencia. Él dijo: “Entre ellos están Himeneo y Fileto, que se han desviado de la verdad. Andan diciendo que la resurrección ya tuvo lugar, y así trastornan la fe de algunos.”

Hno. Froilan: Note que lo peor que puede pasar cuando uno se junta con malos compañeros es que la fe de uno también está en peligro. Las cosas que dicen los malos compañeros pueden envenenar su mente y destruir su fe. Esta es la razón por la que los verdaderos miembros de la Iglesia De Cristo evitan juntarse con necios y problemáticos. Tales personas o compañeros arruinan el buen carácter y la fe de uno. Por eso es muy importante elegir sabiamente a nuestros amigos porque si uno comete un error en ese aspecto, tendrá un gran impacto en su fe.  Entonces, ¿Cómo podemos identificar a los malos compañeros? La Biblia da ejemplos. Leamos primero en Salmos 14:1:

Dice el necio en su corazón: «No hay Dios».

Están corrompidos, sus obras son detestables; ¡no hay uno solo que haga lo bueno!

Hno. Froilan: Así que no debemos asociarnos con necios. ¿Quiénes son ejemplos de tales? La Biblia dice: Dice el necio en su corazón: «No hay Dios». Debemos evitar juntarnos con personas con creencias tan equivocadas. ¿Quiénes más son malos compañeros? Esto es lo que dice en 2 Tesalonicenses 3:6  ETRV (traducido en español)

Hermanos, por la autoridad de nuestro Señor Jesucristo les decimos que se mantengan alejados de cualquier creyente que se niegue a trabajar. Las personas que se niegan a trabajar no están siguiendo la enseñanza que les dimos.

Hno. Froilan: ¿Quiénes más son malos compañeros? Aquellos que se niegan a trabajar o los que son perezosos. ¿Cual es el mandamiento de los apóstoles acerca de tales personas? Mantente alejado de ellos.  ¿Qué más son malas características de los malos compañeros? Aquí en Proverbios 23:20:

No te juntes con borrachos ni te hagas amigo de glotones,

Hno. Froilan: Los verdaderos cristianos no se asocian con borrachos y glotones, porque son malos compañeros que arruinan el buen carácter. Tales actos están en contra de la voluntad de Dios. Aparte de estos, ¿Quienes más son ejemplos de malos compañeros a los que debemos evitar? Aquí en Romanos 16:17-18:

Les ruego, hermanos, que se cuiden de los que causan divisiones y dificultades, y van en contra de lo que a ustedes se les ha enseñado. Apártense de ellos. Tales individuos no sirven a Cristo nuestro Señor, sino a sus propios deseos. Con palabras suaves y lisonjeras engañan a los ingenuos.

Los verdaderos cristianos evitan a los que causan divisiones entre los hermanos e incitan a otros a desobedecer los mandamientos de Dios. 

¿Por qué el Apóstol Pablo ordenó a los verdaderos Cristianos que evitaran a tales personas? Porque estar en compañía de tales personas es perjudicial para la verdadera fe. 

Por eso el Apóstol Pablo dijo: “Apártense de ellos.” Y en el Contemporary English Version, dice así: Amigos míos, les ruego que se cuiden de cualquiera que cause problemas y divida a la iglesia al negarse a hacer lo que a todos ustedes se les enseñó. ¡Manténganse alejados de ellos!

Sin embargo, podemos observar que algunos se juntan con los malvados porque los atraen prometiendoles ganancias cuando toman parte de sus fechorías. Esto es lo que advierte la Biblia en Proverbios 1:10-14:

Hijo mío, si los pecadores quieren engañarte, no vayas con ellos. Estos te dirán: «¡Ven con nosotros! Acechemos a algún inocente y démonos el gusto de matar a algún incauto; traguémonos a alguien vivo, como se traga el sepulcro a la gente; devorémoslo entero, como devora la fosa a los muertos. Obtendremos toda clase de riquezas; con el botín llenaremos nuestras casas. Comparte tu suerte con nosotros, y compartiremos contigo lo que obtengamos».

Hno. Froilan: Algunas veces a algunos les resulta difícil resistir la tentación, especialmente cuando ven que los malvados prosperan y que todo parece irles bien, como se indica en Salmos 73:3-5:

Sentí envidia de los arrogantes, al ver la prosperidad de esos malvados. Ellos no tienen ningún problema; su cuerpo está fuerte y saludable. Libres están de los afanes de todos; no les afectan los infortunios humanos.

Hno. Froilan: Pero, ¿qué declara la Biblia que les sucedería a las personas malvadas a su debido tiempo? Las iniquidades que hacen las personas malvadas los alcanzaran como se declara en Salmos 34:21:

La maldad destruye a los malvados; serán condenados los enemigos de los justos.

Hno. Froilan: Recordemos que las personas malvadas seguramente pagarán el precio.  “La maldad destruye a los malvados.” Los malvados que odian a las personas buenas, de acuerdo con la Biblia, “serán condenados.” Por lo tanto, la Biblia dice en Proverbios 1:15-16:  

¡Hijo mío, no vayas con ellos! Mantente alejado de sus caminos. Ellos corren a cometer malas acciones; van de prisa a matar.

Hno. Froilan: Pero estas advertencias bíblicas y restricciones no deben desalentar a nadie de buscar la amigos, no sea que pierde el valor de tener buenos amigos. La amistad es uno de los dones de Dios para el hombre. En Eclesiastés 4:9-10: 

Es mejor ser dos que uno, porque ambos pueden ayudarse mutuamente a lograr el éxito. Si uno cae, el otro puede darle la mano y ayudarle; pero el que cae y está solo, ese sí que está en problemas.

Hno. Froilan: Entonces, ¿a quiénes debemos elegir como amigos? Antes de responder a eso, tomaremos un breve descanso viendo el programa “Iglesia De Cristo Mundo” para mostrarle sobre los esfuerzos humanitarios realizados por la Iglesia De Cristo para ayudar a las personas necesitadas en Bogotá, Colombia.

Narradora: Bienvenidos a la República de Colombia, el 5º país más grande ubicado en América del Sur.  Un lugar rico en cultura no solo a través de su comida y arte pero también el lugar para obtener la mejor taza de café que puedas tener en el mundo.  A pesar de su belleza y riqueza cultural, la pobreza se experimenta ampliamente en este país. El esposo y la esposa Luis y Glyn conocen las luchas de su gente.

Luis Salazar: Pues esta patria pues pasa por mucha necesidad. Pues, acá tuvimos la pandemia del COVID-19 que golpeó prácticamente a todo el mundo.

Narradora: La migración de venezolanos a Colombia por el desplome de su economía provocó una superpoblación, haciendo la situación más difícil para todos. Es por eso que Luis estaba entusiasmado con un evento del que sería parte para abordar ese problema continuo que enfrenta Colombia. Su esposa Glyn, también cónsul de Filipinas en Colombia, estaba fascinada al ver por primera vez un evento tan grandioso aquí en Bogotá.

Glyn Osorio: (en inglés) Esta es la primera vez que conocí a la Iglesia Ni Cristo incluso en Filipinas. Era una monja, monja franciscana. Pero cuando llegué aquí me preguntaron: “¿Puede ayudarnos con el evento?” Y dije, claro, porque esta es mi forma de ayudar a la gente aquí en Colombia.

Narradora: Ayudando a través de 3.000 paquetes de atención preparados para los residentes en Bogotá, ya sea dentro o en las carpas, todos serían introducidos a la ayuda que se les brinda hoy.

Hermano Ed Javier: La Iglesia De Cristo, mediante la Fundación Felix Y. Manalo, quiere ayudar a aliviar los sufrimientos que experimentan aquellos que soportan y lidiar contra la pobreza.

Glyn: De hecho, me sorprendió tanto que la Iglesia De Cristo esté en todo el mundo. Solo pensé que era de Filipinas y me conmovió porque pues, la Iglesia ha ayudado mucho y hay muchos miembros. Especialmente estoy orgullosa que viene de Filipinas.

Hermano Jun Pagaduan: Ha sido difícil para los residentes recuperarse. Aún más ahora, esta ayuda se está dando hoy a través de la Fundación Félix Y. Manalo es muy oportuno. La gente lo necesita. Y lo hacemos por genuina preocupación, cuidado y amor por nuestros semejantes.

Gisele: Digamos que después de pandemia hubo una escasez muy grande y muchas personas quedaron sin empleo, muchas quedaron pasando por situaciones muy difíciles. Entregaron unos mercados a las personas más necesitadas. Pues, fue un gesto muy bonito.

Hermano Antonio Dueñas: La mayoría de la gente aquí son trabajadores, pero lo que ganan no es suficiente. Por eso lo que hicimos ahora que le demos esta ayuda significa mucho para ellos, para su familia, para sus hijos y también para su subsistencia en la vida.

Narradora:  Incluso las necesidades de grupos caritativos en Bogotá fueron respondidas a través de donaciones monetarias dadas por la Fundación FYM.

Mercedes Rodriguez: Siento muy feliz de haber recibido la donación que nos dieron de la Iglesia para el beneficio de la Fundación Luz, Pan y Vida.

Maria: Sí, he estado en una situación muy difícil, como que tratando de solucionar lo económico, porque como lo mismo lo que digo tenía, tengo tres niñas. Es algo muy bonito, porque de esa forma no solamente nos ayudan económicamente, porque esto es algo muy, sino también de que entre Dios al corazón de muchas personas que lo necesitan.

Hermano Voltaire Tamisin: Mucha gente está ansiosa, no solo por los paquetes de atención, sin más ansiosa por las palabras de Dios compartidas por la Iglesia De Cristo en Colombia para llevar a cabo la Muestra de Preocupación de la Humanidad.

Ynes Isabel: Es la primera vez que conozco de la Iglesia, pero hice la tarea de investigar. Estaba investigando por Internet quién era Félix, que inició la obra en 1914. Me interesa. Pero es impresionante ver tanta gente, tanta entrega de ayudas. Porque no es solamente en mi país hoy, si no es en todo el mundo. Quiero ser parte de la Iglesia, quiero pertenecer a la organización, quiero llevar la Palabra de Dios.

Hermano Ed Javier: (en inglés) Hubo quienes mencionaron durante la entrevista que hicieron su investigación sobre la Iglesia De Cristo y descubrieron que esta Iglesia realmente se preocupa por las personas, quienesquiera que sean. Cualesquiera que sean las razas o nacionalidades. Lo más importante para la Iglesia De Cristo es cumplir con el mandato bíblico de ayudar a las personas que se encuentran en extrema necesidad.

Glyn: Me gustaría agradecer al Hermano Eduardo Manalo, Ministro Ejecutivo de la Iglesia De Cristo, y al Hermano Glicerio Santos IV, el CEO de la Fundación FYM. Muchas gracias, thank you and maraming salamat.

Narradora: Pero sería aún más impactante para Luis.  Siendo un estudiante bíblico actual en la Iglesia De Cristo, vio este evento como una inspiración adicional en su vida.

Bienvenidos otra vez queridos amigos, todavía están viendo El Mensaje. Como puede ver, extender el amor de los miembros de la Iglesia De Cristo a los residentes en Colombia a través de la asistencia es una bendición.  Al igual que la amistad. La amistad es una bendición del Señor Dios. Como se afirma en Eclesiastés 4:9-10:  

Es mejor ser dos que uno, porque ambos pueden ayudarse mutuamente a lograr el éxito. Si uno cae, el otro puede darle la mano y ayudarle; pero el que cae y está solo, ese sí que está en problemas.

Pero debemos entender que para beneficiarnos de una amistad, debemos seguir las enseñanzas de Dios al respecto. Una de ellas es que debemos evitar o alejarnos de malas compañías. Entonces para beneficiarnos de la verdadera amistad que Dios dispuso para el bien y beneficio del hombre, ¿A quienes debemos elegir como amigos? La Biblia nos enseña esto en Proverbios 13:20:

Quien se junta con sabios, sabio se vuelve;

quien se junta con necios, acaba mal.

Hno. Froilan: La Biblia enseña que debemos preferir la compañía de los sabios que la de los necios. ¿Cual es uno de los beneficios de tener personas sabias como nuestros amigos? Aquí en Proverbios 27:17:

Hierro con hierro se aguza; Y así el hombre aguza el rostro de su amigo.

Hno. Froilan: ¿Cual es uno de los beneficios de tener personas sabias como nuestros amigos? También nos volveremos sabios. Porque la Biblia dice que, de la misma manera que el hierro con hierro se aguza, podemos aprender de nuestros amigos y agudizar la mente de los demás . Entonces, ¿a quien más debemos elegir como nuestros amigos? Aquí en Salmos 119:63:

Compañero soy de todos los que te temen, y de los que guardan tus preceptos.

[Salmos 119:63 La Biblia de las Américas]

Hno. Froilan: ¿A quien más debemos elegir como nuestros amigos? El que habla en el versículo dijo:

“Compañero soy de todos los que te temen,” ¿Quienes son los que le temen al Señor? “Los que guardan tus preceptos.” Por lo tanto, los verdaderos sabios son los que guardan los preceptos de Dios. Tales personas se dedican a obedecer las leyes de Dios y a servir a Su nombre. Sea como sea, muchas personas hoy en día pueden simplemente encogerse de hombros y afirmar que sus amigos son devotos, que dedican sus vidas a obedecer las leyes de Dios y a servirle. ¿Es esa una aptitud suficiente para ser verdaderamente sabio? No. Debemos averiguar si estas personas que dicen ser devotas y religiosas sólo están siendo religiosas a su manera y medios, interpretando los preceptos bíblicos en sus propios términos. ¿Todas las personas que dicen que conocen a Dios y obedecen sus leyes, lo sirven y lo adoran, incluso citando la misma Biblia, califican como verdaderamente sabias? Preguntémosle a la Biblia.  Entonces queridos oyentes, ¿Cómo podemos saber quienes son estas personas que verdaderamente temen al Señor y guardan los preceptos de Dios de la manera correcta, como lo prescribe la Biblia? ¿Quienes son los que tienen derecho a servir y adorar a Dios? Leamos Hebreos 9:14, 22:

Si esto es así, ¡cuánto más la sangre de Cristo, quien por medio del Espíritu eterno se ofreció sin mancha a Dios, purificará nuestra conciencia de las obras que conducen a la muerte, a fin de que sirvamos al Dios viviente! De hecho, la ley exige que casi todo sea purificado con sangre, pues sin derramamiento de sangre no hay perdón.

Hno. Froilan: ¿Quienes son los que verdaderamente sirven y adoran a Dios? Son los que se beneficiaron del derramamiento de sangre de Cristo. ¿Cual es la prueba? El verso dice: “Si esto es así, ¡cuánto más la sangre de Cristo, … purificará nuestra conciencia de las obras que conducen a la muerte, a fin de que sirvamos al Dios viviente!” Solo a través del derramamiento de sangre de Cristo puede el hombre recibir el perdón de los pecados y derecho de servir a Dios porque el versículo dice: pues sin derramamiento de sangre no hay perdón. ¿Qué fue redimido por la sangre de Cristo? En Hechos 20:28:

Por tanto, tengan cuidado de ustedes mismos, y de todo el rebaño sobre el cual los ha puesto el espíritu santo como supervisores para apacentar la Iglesia de Cristo, la cual Él

Hno. Froilan: Por lo tanto, aquellos que fueron limpiados y redimidos por la sangre de Cristo son los miembros de su Iglesia–la Iglesia De Cristo. Una de las ventajas de tener verdaderos miembros de la Iglesia De Cristo como nuestros amigos es que tenemos compañeros que nos alientan e inspiran a un amor verdadero y buenas obras, que es obedecer los mandatos de Dios. Y la forma de adoración en  la que se animan unos a otros e incluso a los que no son miembros, a quienes invitan a unirse a la Iglesia es la verdadera forma de adoración que es aceptable al Señor Dios. Si alguna vez nos desviamos del rumbo, podrían darnos un buen consejo y ayudarnos a volver al camino correcto. Nos ayudan a mantener nuestra fe y fortalecer nuestra relación con Dios—¡Así son los verdaderos amigos! Por lo tanto, si un miembro de la Iglesia De Cristo le envía una invitación para que escuche las enseñanzas de Dios, usted puede aceptar dicha invitación. Por eso, le invitamos a conocer más sobre la Iglesia De Cristo. Friends come in all shapes and sizes. From childhood friends to best friends, from long-lost friends to new-found ones, they touch the lives of people. There are friends at school or at work. There are also fair-weather friends who are always around when they need or want something from their friend, and then leave without a trace when his friend is in trouble.  These are just some of many kinds of friends a person might have in his lifetime. People keep their friends for a variety of reasons. They may enjoy each other’s company. They may have common goals and aspirations in life. Likewise, they may share the same interests or hobbies. They may also need someone to confide their problems to. They want someone to lean on for help and sound advice when times get tough. According to the Bible, indeed, it is a blessing to have true friends. As stated in Proverbs 17:17:

A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.

Bro. Froilan: Those who remain loyal and loving at all times are true friends. To find such, one should choose his friends carefully.  After all, friends do exert a powerful influence on one’s life. So in choosing our friends, whom should we not be friends with as taught by the Bible? This is what is stated in Proverbs 12:26:

The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Bro. Froilan: If one makes the mistake of making friends with those who are wicked, he will be in danger of being led astray by them. That is why the Bible instructs us: “The righteous should choose his friends carefully.” Thus, it is foolish to associate with people who lead a wicked way of life. What do the Apostles remind the true Christians regarding choosing their friends and companions? This is what Apostle Paul stated 1 Corinthians 15:33: 

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

Bro. Froilan: What is the warning of Apostle Paul to the true Christians? “Do not be misled:” Whom did he warn who would mislead the true Christians? “Bad company…” What did Apostle Paul declare regarding bad company? “Bad company corrupts good character.” What will happen if a person associates himself with bad companions and thereby ruining his good character? This is what is stated in Proverbs 13:20:

Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.

Bro. Froilan: What will happen if a person associates himself with bad companions and thereby ruining his good character? He would experience a great misfortune. The Bible said:

“hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.” No one in the right frame of mind would want his life to fall to pieces or go down the drain. Aside from this, what else would happen to those who make friends with wicked people? Here in 2 Timothy 2:17-18:

And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.

Bro. Froilan: While speaking to the early Christians, Apostle Paul cautioned them on the influence of bad companions by saying: “their message will spread like cancer.” He mentioned Hymenaeus and Philetus as examples of those who spread such malicious influence. He said: “Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, who have strayed concerning the truth, the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.” Notice that the worst thing that could happen when one associates one’s self with bad companions is that one’s faith is also imperiled. The things bad companions say may poison his mind and destroy his faith.  This is the reason true Church Of Christ members avoid hanging out with fools and troublemakers. Such people or companions would ruin one’s good character and faith. So it is very important to choose our friends wisely because if one makes a mistake regarding this, it will make a huge impact on his faith.  So how can we identify bad companions? The Bible gave examples. Let us read first Psalm 14:1:

The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good.

Bro. Froilan: So we should not associate ourselves with fools. Who are examples of such? The Bible said: The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” We should avoid hanging out with those with such wrong beliefs. Who else are bad companions? This is what is stated in 2 Thessalonians 3:6:

Brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ we tell you to stay away from any believer who refuses to work. People who refuse to work are not following the teaching that we gave them.

Bro. Froilan: Who else are bad companions? Those who refuse to work or who are lazy. What is the commandment of the apostles concerning such? Stay away from them. What else is a bad characteristic of bad companions? Here in Proverbs 23:20:

Don’t associate with heavy drinkers or dine with gluttons,

Bro. Froilan: True Christians do not associate themselves with drunkards and gluttons, for they are bad companions who ruin good character. Such acts are against God’s will. Aside from these, who else are examples of bad companions whom we should avoid? Here in Romans 16:17-18:

Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

Bro. Froilan: True Christians avoid those who cause divisions among the brethren and incite others to disobey God’s commands. Why did the Apostle Paul command the true Christians to avoid such people? Because to be in company with such people is detrimental to the true faith. 

Hence, Apostle Paul said avoid them. And in the Contemporary English Version, it states there:

My friends, I beg you to watch out for anyone who causes trouble and divides the church by refusing to do what all of you were taught. Stay away from them!

Bro. Froilan: However, we can observe that some go along with wicked people because they are enticed by promising them gains when they take part in their wrongdoings. This is what the Bible warned in Proverbs 1:10-14:

My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent. If they say, “Come with us, Let us lie in wait to shed blood; Let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause; Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, And whole, like those who go down to the Pit;  We shall find all kinds of precious possessions, We shall fill our houses with spoil; Cast in your lot among us, Let us all have one purse”—

Bro. Froilan: Sometimes some find it hard to resist the temptation, especially when they see the wicked prospering and that all seem to be going well with them as stated in Psalm 73:3-5:

For I was envious of the boastful, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For there are no pangs in their death, But their strength is firm. They are not in trouble as other men, Nor are they plagued like other men.

But what does the Bible declare that would happen to evil people in due time? The iniquities that evil people do will catch up with them as stated in Psalm 34:21:

Evil will kill the wicked; those who hate good people will be judged guilty.

[Psalm 34:21 New Century Version]

May we remember that evil people will truly pay the price.  “Evil will kill the wicked.” Evil people who hate good people, according to the Bible, “will be judged guiltily. Thus, the Bible states, “Don’t go with people like that.”

My child, don’t go with people like that. Stay away from them. They can’t wait to do something bad. They’re always ready to kill.

Bro. Froilan But these biblical admonitions and restrictions should not deter people from pursuing friendship. Otherwise, they will miss out on the value of having good friends. Friendship is one of God’s gifts to man. In Ecclesiastes 4:9-10:

You are better off to have a friend than to be all alone, because then you will get more enjoyment out of what you earn. If you fall, your friend can help you up. But if you fall without having a friend nearby, you are really in trouble.

Bro. Froilan: So whom should we choose as friends? Before we answer that, we will take a short break by watching a feature from the program “Iglesia De Cristo Mundo”

to show you about the humanitarian efforts done by the Church Of Christ in helping people who are in need in Bogotá, Colombia.

Narrator: Welcome to the Republic of Colombia, the 5th largest country located in South America.  A place rich with culture not only through its food, art and where else better to get the best cup of coffee you could have in the world.  Despite its beauty and richness of culture, poverty is widely experienced in this country.   Residents like husband and wife Luis and Glyn know the struggles of their people. 

Luis Salazar: This homeland is in great need. So here we had the COVID-19 pandemic that hit practically everyone. 

Narrator: The migration of Venezuleans to Colombia due to the crash of their economy caused an overpopulation, making it more difficult for all. That’s why Luis is excited about an event he would be part of to address this ongoing problem faced in Colombia. His wife Glyn, also the Philippine consul to Columbia, was intrigued to see, for the first time, an event so grand happening here in Bogotá.

Glyn Osorio: This is the first time that I knew the Iglesia Ni Cristo, way back in Philippines. I am a nun, Franciscan nun. But when I got here and they asked “Can you help us with the event?” And I said, “Sure,” because this is for helping the people here in Colombia.

Narrator: Helping through 3,000 prepared care packages for residents in Bogotá, whether inside or in the tents, all would be introduced to the help be given to them today.

Hermano Ed Javier: The Church Of Christ through the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation wants to help alleviate the sufferings experienced by those who endure and fight against poverty.

Glyn: Actually, I was so surprised that Iglesia Ni Cristo is, like, worldwide. I thought it was just from Philippines. And I was touched because, well, the Church have helped a lot and there are so many members. But I’m really happy. Especially, I’m proud that it’s coming from Philippines.

Hermano Jun Pagaduan: It has been difficult for residents to recover. All the more now this help be given today through the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation is very timely. People need it and we do out of genuine concern, care and love for our fellow man.

Gisele: After the pandemic, there was a very large shortage and many people were left unemployed. Many were left going through very difficult situations. They delivered groceries to the most needy people, as it was a very nice gesture and a pleasant event.

Hermano Antonio Dueñas: Most of the people here are hardworking, but what they earn is not enough. That is why what we did—we gave them this help—it means a lot to them, to their family, to their children, and also to their subsistence.

Narrator: Even the needs of eight charitable groups in Bogota were answered through monetary donations given by the FYM Foundation. 

Mercedes Rodriguez: I feel very happy to have received the donation they gave us from the Church for the benefit of the Luz, Pan y Vida Foundation.

Maria: Yes, I have been in a difficult situation, like trying to solve the economic problem because I have three girls. So it has been a very difficult situation. It is something very beautiful , because in this way you not only help us financially, but also that makes God enter the hearts of the many people that need it.

Hermano Voltaire Tamisin: Many people are eager, not only for the care packages, but more eager for the words of God shared by the Church of Christ in Colombia carrying out the Care for Humanity event.

Ynes Isabel: Well, it’s my first time, the first time, that I came to know of the Church, but I did my homework to investigate. I was researching on the internet who Felix [Manalo] was, that the work began in 1914. The video? Well, it’s impressive to see so many people, so much giving out aid, because it is not only in my country today, but (throughout) the world. Yes, I want to be part of the Church, I want to belong to that organization. What I want is to carry the word of God.

Hermano Ed Javier: There were those who made mention during the interview that they did their research concerning the Iglesia Ni Cristo and they found out that this Church really cares for the people whoever they are, whatever races or nationalities. What matters most to the Iglesia Ni Cristo is to fulfill the biblical mandate to help people who are really in dire need. 

Glyn: I would like to thank Brother Eduardo Manalo, Executive Minister of the Church Of Christ, and  Brother Glicerio Santos IV, the CEO of the FYM Foundation. Muchas gracias, thank you and maraming salamat.

Bro. Froilan: But we must understand that to benefit from friendship, we must follow God’s teachings regarding it. One of which is that we should avoid or stay away from bad companions. So to benefit from true friendship that God intended for man’s good and benefit, whom should we choose as friends? The Bible teaches us this in Proverbs 13:20:

He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.

Bro. Froilan: The Bible teaches that we should prefer the company of wise people rather than fools. What is one of the benefits of having wise people as our friend? Here in Proverbs 27:17:

As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

What is one of the benefits of having wise people as our friend? We would also become wise. Because the Bible states that, like how iron sharpens iron, we can learn from our friends and sharpen each other’s minds. So whom should we all the more choose as our friends? Here in Psalm 119:63:

I am a companion of all who fear You, And of those who keep Your precepts.

Bro. Froilan: Whom should we all the more choose as our friends? The one speaking in the verse stated: “I am a companion of all who fear You,” Who are those who fear the Lord? “Those who keep Your precepts.”

Bro. Froilan: Hence, those who are truly wise are those who keep God’s precepts. Such people dedicate themselves in obeying God’s laws and serving His Name. Be that as it may, many people nowadays may just shrug off their shoulders and just claim that their friends are godly, who dedicate their lives in obeying God’s laws and serving God. Is that enough a qualification to be truly wise? No. We must find out if these people who claim to be Godly and religious whether they are just being religious in their own ways and means—by interpreting the biblical precepts in their own terms. Do all people who say they know God, and obey his laws, serve and worship Him, even quoting from the Bible itself—qualify as truly wise? Let us ask the Bible. So beloved viewers: How can we know who are these people who truly fear the Lord and keep God’s precepts in the right manner, as prescribed by the Bible? Who are the ones who have the right to serve and worship God? Let us read Hebrews 9:14, 22:

how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

Bro. Froilan: Who are the ones who truly serve and worship God? They are those who benefitted from the shedding of Christ’s blood. What is the proof? The verse states: “how much more shall the blood of Christ, … cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Only through the shedding of Christ’s blood can man receive the forgiveness of sins and the right to serve God because the verse stated: “and without shedding of blood there is no remission.”What was redeemed by Christ’s blood? In Acts 20:28 George Lamsa Translation, this is written: 

Take heed therefore to yourselves and to all the flock over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, to feed the church of Christ which he has purchased with his blood.

Therefore those who were cleansed and redeemed by the blood of Christ are the members of His Church—the Church Of Christ.

Bro. Froilan: One of the advantages of having true Church Of Christ members as our friends is that we have companions who would encourage and inspire us to greater love and to righteous deeds, which is obeying God’s commands. And the manner of worship where they encourage one another and even non-members whom they invite to join the Church is the true form of worship that is acceptable to the Lord God. If ever we veer off course, they could give us godly advice and help us to get back on the right track. They help us uphold our faith and strengthen our relationship with God—such are true friends!
