Upon meeting Executive Minister Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, elderly couple Tomas and Conchita Becerril, are invited to journey back to their homeland in Mexico City. They show us that it’s never too late for dreams to come true.
One day, in 1990, Hugo traveled back to Mexico City this time, with the minister of the Church of Christ and other members to share his faith with his parents. They spent three days having bible studies and learning more about the Church of Christ.
A few years later, Tomas and Conchita became one of the first to be baptized in the Mexico City local congregation. Eventually, Tomas and Conchita moved to California. Now in their twilight years, Tomas is 93 and Conchita is 87 years old. And they’ve been strong and faithful members of the Church of Christ for over twenty years.
During a recent pastoral visit in California of the Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, Tomas and Conchita and their son Jorge got to meet him. And they were invited to travel to Mexico City the following week to attend the first pastoral visit in Mexico City. Accompanied by their son Hugo, Tomas and Conchita, who haven’t been to Mexico in many years, are now going back for a historical event.
There has to be this identifying flag for my country, our nationality. The church is here in Mexico.
The Becerrils did not just come on their own, but even invited their relatives and shared their faith.
Mostly, the religion in this country practices is not in accordance with the will of God. Little by little, we’ve been calling them. Since last week we’ve been telling them about this event. Especially to share with them the words of God, the promise of salvation, and also so they will know the true religion.
For Tomas, the whole experience was overwhelming.
